I recently picked this film and heard some bad reviews but heard that Sienna Miller did an amazing job on the role of Edie Sedgwick. Factory girl was released in 2007, but the film was pushed back by numerous delays, including a lawsuit by Sony Pictures and also a lot of threats by Bob Dylan's lawyers because the movie insinuated that Dylan was responsible for Sedgwick's death in the film. Hayden Christensen plays this character that sounds and looks like Bob Dylan but his name is Billy Quinn/ musician in the film. Guy Pearce plays Andy Warhol (not quite as good as David Bowie's in "Basquiat"). I now am curious of seeing Ciao! Manhattan which is a semi-biographical tale about Edie. Check it out:
I have been a fan of Ron's vinyl toys ever since he put out MC Supersized.
Ron English some folks have called him the son of "contemporary pop" being influenced by Andy Warhol but others have said he tends to enjoy manipulating the corporation’s iconographies to be used against themselves such as Mickey Mouse, Ronald McDonald, and etc.
Recently he has been busy in L.A. sky jacking the city. You can see more of his work at Super Touch Art. Let me know if you do catch some of his work on the streets. He's got this one below all over town.
Titled - “Freedom Boy”…
If this appeals to you check out his book called Abject Expressionism covering 20 years of his career, from neo-Surrealist oil paintings, to photography, and street art which is quite a good coffee table book.
or the "Army" T-shirt collab that he did with Juxtapose.
I have been a big fan of the NBA and today is the beginning of the playoffs. Did anyone see the Suns vs. Spurs game???
I have always enjoyed the commercials they put out and this has definitely been some good marketing for the playoffs.
So who do you think is winning the crown? My guess, its going down against the Boston Celtics vs. San Antonio Spurs but I would like it to be Cavs vs. Suns.
This one is probably my favorite video since I'm a Radiohead fan. I was shocked to hear "House of Cards" playing for this commercial.
This new show DEA on SPIKE TV depicts how much..... No, No, No, rather how cut throat the "Hustle" game can be, forget about "change" - its always been this way.
Take a step back to 1990 when the series actually began but nobody was tuned in. DEA 1990
Question: Are more and more dealers falling to the likes of "Bitchassness" or simply doing want they have been doing the complete opposite of the "Stop Snitchin" campaign from a couple years back. Talk about marketing gone wrong, lol "Stop Snitchin"
Answer: I say its bitchassness!!! They are quick to snitch… way too quick. The Snitches get Stitches campaign is a marketing plug just like everything else. The streets ain't no different from the media… ....full of propaganda.
Wu-Tang's Rza recently teamed up with Chesspark to launch Wu Chess to benefit the non profit -The Hip-Hop Chess Federation uses music, chess and martial arts to promote unity, strategy and nonviolence. There goals exist to elevate the mindstate of America's youth and keeping the kids off the streets.
NBC11 recently covered them at Menlo Park and hooked up with the Rza here.
This just shows how talented the Rza aka Bobby Digital is outside of music, being a producer, rapper, actor, and currently working with Non-Profit by creating a platform into tech world.
The Non-Profit will donate a large part of revenue to the Hip-Hop Chess Federation to fund scholarships for the kids.
Hot Chip was in town all last week and I got to check them out this past weekend for a sold out event at Terminal 5. (formerly Exit)
They are on tour currently promoting their third album "Made in the Dark"
Favorite songs this evening: Boy from School, No Fit State, Crap Kraft Dinner, Ready for the floor, and ending the night with In the privacy of our love"
So I just heard about this site where you can create your own mixtape which its pretty simple but I don't think they have opened their API's where you can share it through RSS feeds.
I saw this lecture earlier this year from a alumni from Carnegie Melon (Thanks Jonlin)
I checked out the video and coming from a professor's perspective, I was quite moved by his last lecture at CMU and didn't realize how much of an impact he had made in this world but apparently he has reached out to 10 million people which started from a youtube video of his last lecture in Pittsburgh.
Randy Pausch has been fighting pancreatic cancer and if you have 70 min., I would check out this video. It's quite inspirational and enlightening. He accomplished his dreams already and one quote I will never forget in this lecture:
""Experience is what you get when you don't get what you wanted"
Life, Elevation, & Maintaining - The Moon is still Black
This photo was taken in 2004 for the CMJ Music Marathon in NYC, which was our first time meeting some of the members Black Moon. A few weeks ago we hooked up with Sean “Ope” Williams a.k.a Paper Chasr" who has been working on a documentary called "Know you got Sole" which you can find here:
Sean contacted us and said we had to meet with Evil Dee and 5 Ft. at Sputnik (currently managed by Vin Black) which is one of the gems in Bucktown USA aka Brooklyn It was truly a "flashback" on how I used to listen to this legendary group back in High School and actually seeing them live and NOW collaborating with them on an up & coming project (thanks to Sean of course).
This is how things evolve once you work hard at what you do and stick to it. We really got to sit down and throw things on the table and realizing that they were in the ""STRUGGLE" just like us. Besides just getting to know them as an artist but also finding out who they really were as individuals and how they found their true love which brought us all together which is Hip Hop.
Did you know? 5FT and Evil met back in Bushwick High School & had a group called Unique Image. They met Buckshot in Brownsville afterwards and since they all shared the same dreams at the time, 5 FT decided it would be a good idea to bring them all together and the rest is history....Will Black Moon come back with another album? Only time will tell.
You are probably wondering whats been going on with 5FT now? You are going to have to wait and find out. I can give you a hint, he's workin on a solo album with Evil. The goal now for 5FT is to bring hip hop back to its roots and make it global.
