Yves Saint Laurent dies at 71
Yves Saint Laurent has passed away today at his apartment in Paris, France. He has been a fashion icon the past 40+ years after he broke in the scene in 1958 as a "Protégé to Christian Dior
At the age of 21 he showed his Trapeze collection, his first after the death of the great Christian Dior.
3 years, he worked closely with Christian Dior. After Dior died in 1957, the House of Dior named Yves Saint Laurent its head designer. He found himself at the head of a $20-million-a-year fashion empire.
Yves announced his retirement in January 2002 and left the world with this quote:
"I have known fear and the terrors of solitude. I have known those fair-weather friends we call tranquilizers and drugs. I have known the prison of depression and the confinement of hospital. But one day, I was able to come through all of that, dazzled yet sober."
“Every man needs aesthetic phantoms in order to exist,”
